Her family has been in the fashion industry for over a decade so there is no doubt where designer Mansi Bhasin, a graduate from Gemological Institute Of America, inherited her love for garments from. Though she has been in the industry for only a-year-and-a-half, she has made a mark for herself with some chic and practical designs. Her label ‘Olbees’, she says, ‘aims to create silhouettes that are fashionable and sophisticated yet affordable.’ In a chat with Surupasree Sarmmah, Mansi talks about her Spring-Summer collection, her must-haves for a beach vacation and more. Your Spring-Summer collection looks effortlessly comfortable... The collection ‘Oleander’ is warm and vibrant and is inspired by the floral outburst during the summer season. Chiffon, crepe and georgette are the main fabrics that I have used here along with embroidery and 3D appliqué. The silhouettes are formal and sophisticated yet cool. Do you try to keep up with the trends or create your own? I always keep up with the trends. Studying the market and knowing what the trends are is what I look forward to. However, I also create my own trends. Primarily, the silhouettes are inspired by international trends and the designs are my own creation. An unplanned thing when it comes to designing... Putting things together and creating unique designs every time is always on the go. It is never planned. Your first picks when you are packing your bag for a beach vacation... Shorts, flip-flops, breezy tops and a cap. One aspect of the fashion industry that puts you off ... The fact that many people copy others works really upsets me. If not a fashion designer... I think I would have been a jewellery designer. Bell sleeves or bell bottoms? Bell bottoms Sarong or shorts? Sarong Sunglasses or a hat? Sunglasses Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
